You will have seen the advertisements and heard the tales of how much you could earn as a Driving Instructor. Well they are right. You can earn those amounts, but if that is your only reason for qualifying as an Instructor:
DO NOT WASTE OUR TIME, AND YOUR MONEY.
A career as an Instructor can be a fantastic choice, but only if you are the right type of person. If you enjoy meeting people, if you would enjoy teaching them a new skill, watching them grow in abiity and confidence, are prepared to repeat what you have already taught them again and again, and if they still cannot master it, can you find a different way to explain things?
Are you prepared to put the hours in? The salary is only as good as you are prepared to make it. There are too many Instructors out there who, in our opinion, are not the most suitable people to be teaching learner drivers. Without that enjoyment in teaching, your lessons will become boring for you, and boring for your pupils, and an hour sitting in a car can feel like three hours if you are not actively teaching.
So think carefully before you go any further, IS THIS THE JOB FOR YOU?
Okay. You want to know more. I have not put you right off the idea, you may be the type of person that the driving industry needs. To qualify as a Driving Instructor you must have held a full Driving Licence for at least 3½ years, and not have any criminal convictions. In total there are 3 tests to take before you can become a fully qualified ADI (Approved Driving Instructor). For more details on the 3 tests have a look at the links on the right hand side.

The part 1 test is the theory part of the exam, you will take the normal Hazard perception and theory test's at a much higher pass rate.
The part 2 test is focused around your own driving ability, in essence is it a normal driving test to ensure you can drive properly, but it is harder to pass than a normal test.
The part 3 test is a test of instructional ability, here you will be marked on how you teach, you need at least 2 grade 4 results to pass your test. You only have 3 chances to pass this test, if you fail you have to start again from the beginning
